It’s always awesome to see your images in print but to get them in one of the premier photography magazines in the nation is…quite frankly mind numbing. We can’t quite get our head wrapped around the whole idea but we ain’t complainin’! It’s such an exciting and hectic time for us and I just had to stop and say a big thanks to everyone who encourages us and inspires us to do what we do. It’s what keeps us going! We’ve also been doing some interviews and webcasts recently. And now I digress….. For all my photographer friends you can now hear us and a whole bunch of other awesome photographers as we dish out some serious marketing mojo! We are proud to have been asked to present a webinar beginning today (December 14th) through the end of the year about our marketing strategies and how we do what we do. We are really excited to present this FREE event for a limited time. Please check it out because it took us 6 hours to record our 30 minute session which means….lots of outtakes and goof ups! It was a lot of fun though for Adina and I to just chat about what we love – and laugh along the way.

For all our blog stalkers – our outtakes reel. (I will regret this I am sure.)

Huh? Sorry guys a bit of photospeak in this post but it’s a big deal to us! We have recently been sponsored by Radiopopper as we begin our 2009 workshop and seminar tour. That’s just sick if you ask me because they are the coolest bunch of guys that make the most killer piece of gear…and they want our images to show what their gadget can do! Radiopoppers have changed the way I shoot and have really allowed me to define my style and signature look. For the laymen out there it is basically a trigger for my flashes….on steroids. Anyway, our images are featured on their tradeshow display in a massive kind of way. My thanks goes out to the totally rockin’ people in the images – Kelsey, Kate, Adina (&me!), Jon & Melissa, Isaac & Julie, and the Colvin family for letting me do my thing!

Ron Dawson of Daredreamer Video compiled a video of the SPA 2009 event in Las Vegas where I was awarded Artist and New Artist of the Year. It captures some of the events of the week and brings back some really cool memories. Look real close and you’ll see a few clips of yours truly (0:02, 1:04, 1:10). We can’t wait for SPA 2009 in San Diego!

2009 Senior Portrait Artist of the Year

SPA (Senior Portrait Artists) holds an annual convention where some of the best photographers from around the world gather to find out the latest trends in the senior high school photography industry and show their best stuff in a print competition. SPA sets the standard for the latest in techniques, trends and photographic excellence in the very competitive senior portrait industry. This was our first year attending and we were just honored to be in the same room with some of the icons of my profession. This year it was at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, NV where the resort provided the coolest places for our numerous model shoots along with some world class entertainment. We were excited to enter the print competition where we could compare our work with some of the best photographers in the world. Our efforts were rewarded with numerous accolades! Here’s our folios along with their placing -

It was quite an honor to have our images judged to be among the best in the competition! I must thank our seniors this year who were all amazing because they allowed me to be creative and were up for just about whatever I came up with! Specifically, I must thank Kelsey Boyd whose folio was the highest scoring of the competition, Gabby Eisenbach who combined with Kelsey’s placed 4th. David White and Reed Webb’s folios combined for a 3rd place collection. Truly an awesome showing for our first SPA competition!

At each SPA convention the judges award a photographer among their 850 members with the recognition of being the SPA Top New Artist of the year. Since 2008 was my first year photographing seniors, I was in the running for this honor along with some crazy talented people. The judges reviewed my work and awarded Scott Hayne (that’s me!) as the Top New Artist of the Year! Is that crazy or what? I am still in shock and over the whole thing but I consider it an honor and a blessing that other photographers believe in my work and recognize the artistry and work that goes into it. THANK YOU.

It turns out that the night was not over. There was one more award that SPA gives, it is to the “Artist of the Year”. This is the most prestigious award that one can receive for their senior photography work. The judges determine among all the SPA members who will be the “Artist of the Year 2009″. Once again my name was called to receive this incredible honor. Seems like a dream as I look back now but I am slowly getting a grip on the significance of the awards that were awarded on Tuesday. Here’s a few shots of the crazy night!
